This week we celebrated Eli's 3rd birthday on Wednesday with some fierce lion pride. Rawr, little Lion cub!
This week we also continued to learn about winter animals. We learned about the birds that stay here over the winter and do not migrate south. We made snow owls, cardinals, and blue jays to populate our winter tree. We made feathers that we painted and snipped with scissors, and we even painted using feathers. The children noticed how soft and light the feathers were without the paint, and how they became heavier after they dipped them in paint to make their paint strokes.
We also learned about groundhogs in preparation for Groundhog Day. We watched two videos about groundhogs: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wfrq11bowOw and
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UJjvAmj6AGw. We sang songs about groundhogs and created a groundhog project. Finally, on February 2 we made a fort where the kids could poke their heads out and see their shadow (or not). I guess we will have to see whether or not we have an early spring. I predict March 20 for the start of spring.
